Cleaning without harming!
The practice of doing things the ‘Eco’ way may once have been considered as ‘alternative’ living and representative of a very small selection of the population, this however has dramatically changed in the past 5 years. ‘Eco’ living is now widely regarded as the only way to live if you value your health, the health of those around you and the sustainability of the environment.
This is evident everywhere you go now with many ‘Eco’ lines of produce out selling established mainstream brands. You only need to visit the local supermarket to see this. However, one area which has gained particular exposure in the media recently is ‘Eco’ cleaning, or cleaning without using potentially harmful agents.
Many of the synthetic chemicals applied in domestic cleaning can be highly toxic and have been proven to have direct links with allergies, headaches, respiratory illness, congestion and fatigue along with more serious effects.
There is also a misconception relating to certain products that are labelled as biodegradable. The term often suggests a product that is environmentally sound and kinder to humans and animals. Many commercial and domestic cleaning products however that still use non-ionic surfactants derived from or manufactured with ethylene oxide are promoted as being biodegradable, yet they often do not biodegrade readily under the anaerobic conditions found in some parts of our waterways and hence still have an adverse effect on our environment.
All these issues are particularly relevant to standard carpet cleaning practice, in which huge arrays of chemicals are used for different stains and methods.
However, it does not need to be like this as there are excellent cleaning products on the market that are 100% plant based, biodegradable and non-toxic and that produce the same results when used with powerful water extraction equipment.
Eco Carpet Care only use these new-generation surfactants which are more sustainable – they are produced from renewable resources and they biodegrade readily without toxic effects or by-products.
Through word of mouth demand for our service has grown quickly and a genuine need for the service has seen it transform into a unique and important business.
We are fully certified by the National Carpet Cleaners Association and believe that the majority of professional carpet cleaners around the Country do an excellent job. However, this service was established for those of you like us who take a real interest in their health and micro-environments and wish to live and work in conditions that will not promote the symptoms of exposure to dangerous and often harmful chemicals.
It is exciting that the term ‘Eco Cleaning’ is now widely recognized, even by supermarkets as a standard that we should all strive for in maintaining as healthy an environment as we can and we are delighted that the company is able to promote and maintain an important area of this essential environmental concept’.
Carpeting is a Major Contributor to Poor Indoor Air Quality
Carpet has the ability to trap and hold airborne household volatile organic compounds (VOCs), as well as chemicals and dirt walked in on your shoes from outside. Eventually these chemicals become a hazardous part of house dust along with particles from the carpet fibres themselves.
EPA studies have shown that chemically contaminated carpet dust can be a significant source of chemical exposure for infants, toddlers, seniors and family pets. Not only are they more susceptible to the unhealthy affects of low-level exposure to chemicals, toddlers also tend to be exposed to a higher level of chemicals from carpet dust because they frequently put their hands in their mouths as they explore the world around them.
A well maintained and cleaned carpet can help eliminate chronic sinus and allergic health concerns of you and your family, while at the same time extending the life of your carpet. Furthermore, a well designed and built vacuum cleaner is essential in your home maintenance plan in addition to regular cleanings by professional carpet cleaners using non-toxic cleaning solutions.
So which cleaning company and method?
Like plumbers and electricians, finding the right carpet cleaner can be time consuming and problematic.
There are lot’s of different companies offering lots of different services and sadly, just like any other home visit service, not all companies can be trusted to do a good job or use cleaning agents that are safe for the building occupants and will not leave toxins in your home or business.
With so many options how do you make the right choice?
Eco Carpet Care was established to answer this question for those of you who want a company they can trust and an effective service that does not use potentially harmful chemicals.
We know just how difficult it can be to maintain your carpets and keep then clean of inevitable dirt and stains. And that is why we offer a 100% SAFE and EFFECTIVE process that removes even deep down dirt and stubborn stains while remaining completely safe for building occupants, even children, babies and pets who spend much of their time in direct contact with the carpet.
Most carpet cleaning is conducted for the sake of improving the appearance of the carpet. We define “clean” not only in terms of appearance, but also in terms of hygiene, safety and benefits to indoor air quality! We believe in source removal.
This will always be preceded by a free visit and estimate.
Once you have made contact with us we will visit you to give an on site estimate of the cleaning required. At no point will you be required or expected to agree to the cleaning and you will be left with a printed cost estimate for all work discussed. At this stage, we will test your fabrics to ensure correct methods and care are applied.
If you agree to the estimate, you will NOT PAY MORE!
Our cleaning process is then as follows;
1. We Extensively pre-vacuum the area, furniture or mattress with our special vacuum system with combines the dry dirt with a liquid spray internally to ensure it is no longer airborne and wont re-soil.
2. We move furniture as agreed in the first visit with sliders and protect as required
3. We spot and pre-spray with our 100% natural solution, focusing on walkways, heavy traffic areas, and pet and food spots
4. We use state-of-the-art water extraction equipment to remove spots and dirt from the fibre. Our cleaning solution is safe, non toxic, fragrance-free and has been developed for use by the chemically sensitive
5. We fresh water rinse to prolong carpet life by eliminating residues that will attract dirt and breed micro-organisms
6. If necessary and depending on the absorbency of the fabric cleaned, we will use turbo drying equipment to speed up the drying process

“There are many magical moments in the gardener’s year. The first sweet tender peas podded straight into your mouth, a just-picked Gardeners Delight tomato eaten wrapped in a basil leaf, or the first sweet-sharp raspberries fresh from the cane. Yet to many growing your own seems a mystery – something we at River Cottage hope to dispel in a day dedicated to helping you make the most of your patch, be it large or small.”
“The River Cottage Kitchen Garden is for everyone, and whether you have an acre of this green and pleasant land, an urban allotment or a high rise windowsill, you too can grab your share of the harvest.”
Eco Carpet Care and its cleaners also offer upholstery cleaning. We can clean most fabrics, and our process is similar to that used in our carpet cleaning, although we use various adapted hand tool to protect the upholstery and deep clean in any creases or button areas.
First we inspect the furniture, assessing it so we can let you know what to expect from the cleaning. Next, we pre-condition the fabric to let our natural cleaning agents emulsify the dirt and stains. We follow this with a textile rinse and extraction to thoroughly remove soil and moisture. We then use high powered cold air dryers to accelerate drying time. Finally we will use an upholstery brush to groom and leave fabric looking like new
Business carpet cleaning – Commercial
Cleaning without harming!
The Eco Carpet Care network is setting a new standard in the UK for what is acceptable when having your commercial premises’ carpets and upholstery cleaned.
It is important for companies to lead the way in promoting the health of staff, visitors and the environment by making better choices, like reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling and many carpet cleaning companies are now leading the Country in getting on board. Now we need to grasp further and significant new opportunities to shift course again relating to how we clean and what we use to clean and this shift is particularly valuable to small business owners and larger business facilities managers.
The bar has been raised for carpet cleaners to meet this challenge. The result is cleaner indoor air, lower health risks for building occupants and staff, fewer liabilities, and far less environmental impact.
Our national service is particularly important with businesses and premises that are expected to offer safe indoor environments, such as;
- Care Homes
- Health Centres
- Alternative Centres
- Doctors/Dentists Surgeries
- and more…
